Kinetin is a synthetic cytokinin class plant growth regulating phytohormone, altough it has been shown to exist naturally in the DNA of cells of almost all organisms tested so far, including human and numerous plants. It’s a very potent plant growth regulator (PGR), active in the 1-10 PPM range, so even only 1 gram goes a long way. Studies with peppers & tomatoes show it’s best used on younger seedling plants during their vegetative growth, where 6-Benzylaminopurine is better suited for applications during later stages of growth and flowering / fruiting.

All plants regulate their growth, development, and behavior by Plant Growth Regulator (PGR) Hormones, which in most cases move through the plant from one part to another. Fertilizer provides fuel for plants to grow, but doesn't force them to do so. Hormonal signaling dictates the the plant to do so, and the fertilizer is like the 'gasoline' fuel (energy) to carry out such signaling.Think of it as fertilizer is the fuel, where hormones are the gas pedal (or brake pedal) of various plant growth characteristics.

By treating plants with PGR's you can not only alter the ways they grow, you can boost their growth at the same time. The reason is because it requires plant energy to synthecize these signaling phytohormone chemicals. As Plant Growth Boosting Regulator:
Cytokinins function as essential growth hormones (PGR’s), which can influence cell growth and differentiation in plant and non-plant tissues. Kinetin can be formed in vivo, neutralizing harmful properties of hydroxyl radical reaction products. This is a defense mechanism in response to oxidative stress of cells. 8 Degradation of sugar residues in DNA is a major route of this cellular damage. Kinetin-activated, major nucleolar organizer regions in basal, equatorial, and near-apical tissue of onion (leaf base) suggest it to be a regulator.

As An Anti-Aging Creme:
Dr. LeWinn’s skin care product Kinerase (Active Ingredient: 0.1-0.2% N6-Furfuryladenine) claims to be a “C8 Peptide” “nature-identical” plant growth factor, which “delays and improves unwanted changes in appearance and texture of photodamaged skin.” It claims users will “Look up to 10 years younger, in 5 minutes” by reducing wrinkles and improving skin texture, telangiectasia, and mottled hyperpigmentation. Results are typically seen in 4 to 6 weeks. Product literature compares Kinerase with the prescription cream Renova (0.05% tretinoin), finding Kinerase to be superior to Renova parameters by patient self-assessment at a 24-week period.

Extends The Life Of Cells:
Single-celled yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, used as a model, demonstrated spore formation at micromolar concentrations of kinetin. Another report finds kinetin to delay aging and prolong lifespan of the fruitfly Zaprionus paravittiger. Addition of kinetin in a culture medium of human cells can delay and offset aging characteristics such as growth rate and cell size. The amount of DNA in the nuclei of the fibroblast cells increased in the presence of kinetin from human skin.

Another Mass Spectrum exclusive. In this initial release, basic solubility was the main objective. Full solution boils (i.e. 'Microwave Boil Trick'), or overnight soaks weren't generally attempted. Partial dissolve results data was included as more rigorous pursuits may yield you results. "Melt" results were exclusive to Triacontanol. In each case the melted substance reverted to solid form upon cooling, but its seems possible that applying a secondary solvent to the solution in its hot melted state may enable post-cool suspension in the solution thereby enabling plant bioavailability. "Reaction" means the substance bubbled inside the solvent or similar results (molecular breakdown). This was most common with VOC solvents with heat applied. When heating substances keep an eye for reactions in case we didn't notice them. Beyond all that, results may vary depending on substance batch or other variables. NOTE: Treating entire plants with Gibberellic Acid (GA3) can be dangerous, especially via foliar application, and especially during vegetative growth phases. There are safe dose ranges for virtually plants, but overdosing can also eventually cause extreme plant tissue stretching. This can be as extreme as the plant literally falling over under it’s own weight. Mixing gibberellins with both auxins (IAA) and cytokinins (6BA) gives the treatment a synergizing balance and can exceed these limitations (i.e. a hardy ‘stretched out’ plant that is dense and full).

Cytokinins Are Auxin Activated:
Auxin is the PGR hormone produced by the plant that governs all growing activity within the plant.
Cytokinins act in concert with auxin and act either synergistically or antagonistically to control several significant developmental processes, such as the formation and maintenance of meristem. The ratio of auxin to cytokinin plays an important role in the effect of cytokinin on plant growth. More cytokinin induces growth of shoot buds, while more auxin induces root formation. [Cytokinin alone has no effect on parenchyma cells. When cultured with auxin but no cytokinin, they grow large but do not divide. When cytokinin is added, the cells expand and differentiate. When cytokinin and auxin are present in equal levels, the parenchyma cells form an undifferentiated callus.] The rooting auxins (IBA & NAA) can ‘destroy’ certain plant types if applied via foliar spraying. Indole Acetic Acid (IAA) is the best auxin for use in cytokinin activation, and can be safely sprayed onto plants in this context.

If released to air, an estimated vapor pressure of 1.8X10-9 mm Hg at 25 deg C, indicates that kinetin will exist solely in the particulate-phase in the ambient atmosphere. Particulate-phase kinetin is removed from the atmosphere by wet and dry deposition. If released to soil, an estimated Koc of 612 indicates that kinetin will have low mobility in soil. Biodegradation data were not available. Volatilization from moist soil surfaces is not expected to be important based upon an estimated Henry’s Law constant of 1.2X10-14 atm-cu m/mole. Volatilization from dry soil surfaces is not expected to be an important environmental fate process based on the estimated vapor pressure of kinetin. If released into water, kinetin is expected to adsorb to suspended solids and sediment in the water column based upon the estimated Koc value.
